How to Drive Safely – Part 1

We’ve been talking a lot about how to handle risky weather situations for a while now, so we are going to take a break and discuss a different situation you can run into on the road: the police. The next two blogs are going to go through ways to avoid getting a traffic ticket.

Before we go any further, we want to emphasize that a majority of policemen and women are good people working to make their contribution to society. As with any profession, there are always bad apples, but it doesn’t mean the whole barrel is rotten.

Rule 1: Relax

If you look in your mirror and see a cop car, don’t freak out. You don’t know if the officer is headed home from a shift or in the middle of one. The fact is, if you freak out, you are far more prone to make a mistake and get in trouble. Just relax, make sure you’re going the speed limit, and drive.

Rule 2: Wear your seatbelt

If you don’t like wearing a seatbelt, you may have been able to get away with it for a while. The truth is, cops are always looking for people not wearing seatbelts. If you get pulled over, it’s the first thing they look for, and don’t try putting your belt on to trick them – they can see you doing it. As we are sure you know, seatbelt laws exist in all states. Just do yourself a favor and wear that belt!
